S.A.F.E. Alumni

S.A.F.E. members are considered Alumni upon completion of their undergraduate studies. All members with completion of a bachelors degree will receive 'Alumni' status.

Samantha Oshiro

Sam is originally from Murrieta, California where she completed her high school days at a prep school in Texas. Sam was officially the University of California, Merced's first recruited athlete. She was a 4-year student-athlete on the Women's basketball team wear she helped establish a passionate, determined, and hard-working culture for the program. Sam graduated in the Spring of 2016 with a Bachelor's of Art in Cognitive Science. In July 2016, Sam will be attending the University of San Francisco -- Los Angeles campus to attain her Masters in Sports Management. Sam assisted in the creation of S.A.F.E. serving as the first Chief Projects Officer (CPO), where she organized the curriculum for all projects and supervised the inaugural year of all developed programs. Sam was a leader by example, and again, established a culture in S.A.F.E. for all future intercollegiate mentors to follow. 

Victoria 'Vickie' Rouse

Vickie is a Central Valley local from Turlock, California. Vickie came to the University of California, Merced ready to achieve success. She was a 4-year student-athlete for the Women's volleyball team as a middle blocker and outside hitter. One of the strongest and will-driven student-athletes on campus, Vickie fought through several injuries to becoming a very successful student-athlete. Vickie graduated in Spring of 2016 with a Bachelor's of Science in Human Biology. Throughout her four years as a student-athlete she has earned a 3.68 Cumulative GPA and received Daktronics Scholar Athlete for 2 years in a row. Vickie is looking to continue her academic career by attaining her Masters in Public Health and to attend Medical School with aspirations for being an Ophthalmologist. Vickie assisted in the creation of S.A.F.E. serving as the first Chief Financial Officer (CFO), where she established a financial presence for S.A.F.E. by opening bank accounts, formatting financial statements, and recording all expenses. With her background in Biology, Vickie will be assisting towards creating a program for our local youth with the local zoo.  

Michael Pierick

Michael is originally from San Diego, CA. He graduated this Spring 2016 from the University of California, Merced with a Bachelors of Science in Management. During his time at UC Merced, Michael spent four years on the Men's Basketball team, serving as the team captain in his senior year. Also during his senior year, Michael received the 2016 UC Merced Leadership Award for Contribution to Student Affairs Award. He received this recognition after founding S.A.F.E. and the excellent work performed by the original officers and first class of S.A.F.E. members. Michael has used his passion of empowering youth towards aspiring post-secondary education towards developing programs form within S.A.F.E. In the Fall 2016, Michael will be continuing his passion past S.A.F.E., by joining the UC Merced Admissions and Outreach Department as an Admissions Advisor Specialist serving the Central Valley region. As the founder, Michael hopes to see S.A.F.E. grow and be implemented into every youth athletics program ranging from elementary to high school ages.
